HOW IT ALL STARTED

Existing only as a pipe dream back in 2019, The Cosy Desi Club finally came to fruition in 2023 after searching for a space that was nurturing, low-key and inclusive. After being frustrated by a lack of spaces that truly uplifted South Asian creatives, wherever they are in their journey, we built an online platform dedicated to breaking barriers for a space that’s inclusive without the cliques.

Based in Yorkshire, there was also a lack of in-person events or groups where a large part of our community could connect with each other. And that’s where the physical events began. Entirely self-funded, we aimed to bridge that gap in the best way we could.

After the first event, we noticed just how much this was needed; a community that spotlighted creatives when we’ve been pushed to do anything but. Shining a light on the talent within our community is our way of saying “we see you, you’re doing great”.

Fast forward to now, we’ve held a few more events where people have come as they are, and always left with a new friend. But we noticed something else - it’s so important for creatives within our community to really feel like their work is being seen. So, we set out to release a print magazine to showcase the range of talent and stories from anyone who had something to say. After our second issue, we’ve had over 80+ contributors across the globe who shared their vulnerability and talent with us, and we’re so excited to continue this journey.

Come along for the ride and stay as long as you’d like.

Until next time,
