<image:caption>The first film screened at the Regal was in 1953, Ladki, a romantic comedy starring Bharat Bhusan, Kishore Kumar, Vyjayanthimala and Anjali Devi. It drew 300 people, a promising start for the EFS's tenure at the Regal. With demand increasing, the showings went from monthly to weekly, and even daily, at least three nights of the week – showcasing the hit movies of the time, such as 1958 Amardeep and 1964 Sangam. The EFS even hosted massive movie stars for film premieres, including I.S. Johar, who was filming Lawrence of Arabia at the time, as well as the stars of Mother India, one of the most famous Indian films of the 1950s.</image:caption>

I will forever remember her line to Alamzeb, Sharmin Segal’s character, loosely translated as “a woman’s biggest enemy are her dreams”. Her character stumbles through life at the Mahal in an intoxicated haze, numbing herself to the pain that has lived inside her since she was left at the brothel as a child by a cruel aunt.</image:caption>

      <image:title>BLOG - Protesting for a Free Palestine</image:title>
<image:caption>On a personal note, this was my second protest after attending the protest in Leeds, with the organised protest on November 11 being one I couldn’t miss for the world. The enormity of the London protest was breathtaking. It felt like the world had stopped just for us. My favourite part was seeing people waving from their bedroom windows with flags in solidarity. I later realised I’d witnessed a grand total of three(!) individuals hurling abuse but no one took notice of this, and we continued on peacefully. Tube journeys were full of Palestinian flags, tired protesters, and friendly smiles.</image:caption>

It was exactly this confidence that led to the world responding by trying the trend for themselves, nervously testing out camera angles with some people setting themselves ‘challenges’ to use the trend to build confidence and own a space – a feat that’s easier said than done.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Sabrina Bahsoon, 22, is of Malaysian and Lebanese descent who went from part-time tutoring to catwalks almost overnight. After her videos caught the attention of everyone who is anyone in the fashion world, she made her debut at London Fashion Week in The MAC Face Show, her content for the Hugo Boss show in Milan garnered their highest-ever views, she walked at the Christian Cowan show for Paris Fashion Week, and recently attended the Valentino SS24 show. Bahsoon is pursuing her fashion career dreams with no hints of slowing down.</image:caption>

<image:title>BLOG - The Burning Kingdoms: A Trilogy - The Jasmine Throne is book 1 of the Burning Kingdoms Trilogy, a sapphic fantasy set in a world inspired by ancient India. Three women resist against the deathly grip of an empire, each in their own way. Malini escapes imprisonment, Bhumika exerts her carefully cultivated political soft power and Priya learns to tap into her deeply rooted magic. Suri's writing is beautiful and engaging to read and her characterisation is spot on. All the characters are so nuanced and well rounded that you can't help but love them all in their morally grey, messy glory. And for a book that doesn't have any sex in it, the sapphic sexual tension is deliciously palpable. I read the e-book and listened to the audiobook simultaneously, but quickly gave up on the audio as Shiromi Arserio drained all the life and beauty out of Suri's words for me. A brilliant 5 star book with the only downside of slightly slow pacing at the beginning (which other readers don't mind as Suri sets up the political backdrop of the world she's building). An absolute must-read.</image:title>

<image:title>BLOG - The Burning Kingdoms: A Trilogy - The Oleander Sword is book 2 in the Burning Kingdoms Trilogy, a sapphic fantasy set in a world inspired by ancient India. This book was so gripping that there were many moments where I screamed, "WHAT?!” at my little Kindle screen. Again, the pacing is a little slow at the beginning as Suri establishes a new political environment and our three protagonists' very new, unfamiliar lives. It's all worth it to read though, as it all feels necessary for the story to move forward. Malini is now commanding an entire army, Priya and Bhumika are now powerful elders of Ahiranya. But once Priya and Malini battle to overturn the empire, Bhumika faces a familiar yet alien foe at home. The twists and turns in this book mean that all of the characters, not just the protagonists, have to make difficult, devastating and often surprising decisions. Malini and Priya's love is flawed and rough-edged. It all just makes this book a juicy, captivating read. Once again, a 5 star book from Suri. I cannot wait for the third book: The Lotus Empire, which will be released on 16th July 2024.</image:title>

An esteemed, smart and accomplished woman, she had arrived in Mumbai newly married – her husband a high-flying politician. This life, however, was merely an easy-to-swallow image that hid the years of abuse from Shehnaz’s husband.</image:caption>
